Tulane Urology Hosts International Laparoscopy Fellows

In early October, a group of 8 urologic surgeons from Latin America were exposed to a broad variety of minimally invasive urologic surgical techniques including surgical treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder, and other various urologic procedures. Led by Charimain Dr. Raju Thomas, and aided by Dr. Antonio Barios and Dr. Ricardo Szemat, the program offered an immersive experience in minimally invasive urologic surgery.

During their week long stay over two consecutive sessions, the fellows attended and participated in active didactic program in the department of urology which included tumor board, grand rounds, and cancer center meetings. They also went through a robust simulation lab with active research and curriculum validation studies that involve both a laparoscopic surgery simulator and the daVinci console simulator. The fellows were also exposed to procedures involving residents, medical students, and visiting doctors. For more information on Tulane Urology’s international laparoscopy fellowships, please contact Dr. Antonio Barrios and Dr. Ricardo Szemat.

Tulane Urology will hold it another set of sessions March 6-10 and March 13-17, 2017.
